12 months in and the task set is the one I’m most uncomfortable with. Below is an F, I didn’t push myself and this saddens me, but I’ve wasted enough time worrying about this. I ventured into the city on 3 separate evenings only to come home with an empty SD card. There are tasks upcoming which will further make me uncomfortable, better get used to it. 😉

Portrait: Street Candid
Candids on the street, show us life in your town through the lens.

I prefer my street to be a scrub.

Artistic: Patterns
Get inspired by the rhythm that patterns bring to your images.

Hmmmmm

PXK59172

Hmmm anyone for Broccoli? or was that an aerial shot from a scout during WW2?

Fractals for everyone!!!

The premise rests with the extraction outwards from undisclosed patterns that are found and re found again and again. This image could be extracted from a high vantage point, or from under a macro lens. There is nothing obviously discrete nor discerning to isolate it in either direction.

But I’ve submitted a few images based on this premise previous, I need to push myself running to the end.

Landscape: Waterscape
Ocean, lake, river, pond, or puddle. Make water the primary subject of this landscape.

PXK59229

A local checkpoint, it recently has been flooded and the grass’s have enjoyed the soak. A month ago this was desolate and struggling. My “waterscape” is represented within the life that grows from it.

Portrait: Family
Whether it’s the family you are born with or the one you choose, show the world what family is to you.

PXK59164_02

Yep, fair representation 😛

I had imagined the three of us to be occupied away from the camera. The animal found something novel in the flashing light and was fixated. This was accidentally great and the rest of the composition was focused around her.

Artistic: Blue
You were inspired by the fiery red earlier, now be inspired by calming blue.

Was I inspired by red? Oh That’s right I gelled the bathroom and it ended up looking a volcano erupted.

My first thoughts were to normative ideas of blue, sadness, isolation, depression, being forgotten. But then I was distracted by the roof line of the tuck shop at lunch.

blue

Lines that make squares that make rectangles still make me all gooey inside.

Landscape: Simplify
Simply the scene to make your primary subject stand out.

PXK58981

So not so much stand out, but just happens to be left within what is around?

Despite the clouds being interesting enough in their own right (I still like clouds) this is about the children’s toy flying over it all. Well When I say children toy I mean some large commercial aircraft.. No toy still works there too.

Anyway I enjoyed how the large cloud structures dwarf the aircraft as it flees out of the corner as quick as it dares.

Portrait: Silhouette
Expose for the background and let your subject fall into shadow. Shape is important this week.

I can’t help but start to feel a teen styled angst toward he whom is giving me direction. I do note I’m probably behind schedule and that never helps.

Taking inspiration from that silhouette of Don King (which I confess I can’t find, nor remember the name of the photographer) It was a shot from behind the media circus. The photographer was short, and couldn’t muscle in the front, so she walked around the back and captured this wonderful image of the other flashes lighting up the wispy strays of his hair.

So anyway I had some kind of lighting in mind when I went about and did this. And because I’m an angsty teenager complaining about my course work..

Artistic: Sparkle!
Shoot what inspires you this week, just make sure it sparkles.

Errr. sparkles? Hmmmm, Nothing says shiny like a nicely hung fork.

This next image was an experiment in shooting a spray mist against a flash to see if I could get some rain / snow / abstract wind styled artefacts appearing.

Water droplets might be more convincing if they were larger. Should have tried with a longer focal length. #fail.

Landscape: Weather
This week should be as unpredictable as the weather! Feature the weather in this week’s landscape.

Generic Landscape, shame on me. 🙁

Portrait: Hands

Usually the face is the strongest element in the frame; with the hands being second. Make the hands the most important element in your image this week.

Done.
